How to manage taxes on your Shopify Store? How to manage billing and invoices on your Shopify store? How to offer Gift coupons on your Shopify store?

This article (and a series of upcoming articles) will help in understanding taxes, billing, and some general setting on your Shopify store, and more. This article is part of a series of 7 articles. And by the end of these 7 articles, you will be able to start a Dropshipping business using Shopify.

In this article, we will learn how to manage taxes, billing, invoices, and some general settings on your Shopify store.

Day #5: An Understanding of Taxes, Billing And Shopify Settings

What will we be covering in this article?

  • Taxes: Manage how your store charges taxes
  • Billing: Manage your billing information and view your invoices
  • General Settings: View and update your store details
  • Locations: Manage the places you stock inventory, fulfill orders, and sell products
  • Notifications: Manage notifications sent to you and your customers
  • Gift cards: Enable Apple Wallet passes and set gift card expiry dates
  • Files: Upload images, videos, and documents
  • Plan and permissions: View plan information and manage what staff can see or do in your store
  • Store languages: Manage the languages your customers can view on your store
  • Legal: Manage your store’s legal

To begin, click on ‘Settings’ that you see at the bottom left of your Shopify dashboard.

Taxes: Manage your store taxes

Taxes are specific to a location. Based on the tax component in your location, you will have to add it to the Taxes which appears under the Shopify settings section.

You can check (or uncheck) the options that is applicable to your business.

Billing: Manage your billing and invoices

Under Billing, you can manage your bills on Shopify.

This goes towards your monthly subscriptions, the payments towards the add, shipping labels, transaction fees, etc.

You can add a payment method by clicking on ‘Add payment method .’

General Settings: View and update your store details

All general information pertaining to your Shopify store will be available in the ‘General’ tab.

The store name is what you entered initially, along with the store contact email.

You can enter in a different email address to be displayed to your customers.

Your store address, the currency to be displayed, and the default weight can all be set here, as shown below.

Locations: Manage the places you stock, fulfill, and sell

Shopify, by default, enters in your current location as your primary pickup (office) location.

Based on the plan you have selected, you can add multiple locations. These could be your store location, fulfillment centers, etc.

You can add locations, based on your plan, by clicking on the ‘Add location’ button.

Notifications: Manage all your notifications

Notifications will be sent out automatically based on the settings you enable. 

You can add notifications for Orders, Shipping, Local Delivery & Pickup, Customer messages such as invitation, welcome note, etc., Email Marketing, etc.

You can also add ‘Staff order notifications’, where in you will be notified when a new order comes in.

Browse through the various notifications available.

Gift cards: Enable Wallet passes and set gift card

In this section, you can offer your customers a Gift card and set the expiration date.

The two options available are ‘Gift cards never expire’ & ‘Gift cards expire’. If they do expire, you can select the time frame from the dropdown.

You can also enable Apple Wallet passes.

Files: Upload images, videos, and documents

This sections is used more when you are selling digital products. You can upload your files here, be it images, PDF, videos, eBooks, etc.

On successful payment, you can send across the downloadable link of the files residing here.

Plan and permissions: View plan information

You get to view your current active plan and also add staff accounts in this section.

Store languages: Manage the languages on your store

The default language is set to English. You can add language and change the account language too from your Store languages section.

Legal: Manage your store's legal

Every online store requires few key pages. Starting from your ‘Refund policy’, ‘Privacy policy’, ‘Terms of service’, ‘Shipping policy’, all these pages can be created here with the help of Shopify’s ‘Create from template’.

The format is readily available. You could make changes accordingly and include them on your store. The link to these pages will typically be in the footer menu.

With this, we have completed most of the settings and close to launching our online store.
