Choosing the right Shopify plan is important. It helps you in evaluating the best features and tools you get for your store, in order to run a successful online business.

And yes, there is a Shopify plan that allows you to add a ‘Buy‘ button on your website for just $9 per month. Be it a website built on WordPress, Weebly, Wix, etc., you can add a Buy button on just about any website, with the Shopify Lite plan.

When you start selling on Shopify, there are different Shopify plans (Shopify Pricing Plan) that you’ll be choosing from, in order to use the platform and sell your products or services.

Choosing the right Shopify plan is important. It helps you in evaluating the best features and tools you get for your store, in order to run a successful online business.

To begin with, list out the features you would like to have on your online store. Then, the easiest way to decide which package is ideal for you is to match each of your requirements with the features that Shopify offers. And then, proceed with the plan that best suits you.

Currently, while I am writing this article, the Shopify plans are as follows,

  • Basic Shopify: $29 per month
  • Shopify: $79 per month
  • Advanced Shopify: $299 per month

In addition to the above three, you have the following,

Shopify Lite: $9 per month
This is an option wherein you can add products to any website or blog and accept credit card payments for only $9 USD per month.

Shopify Plus: $2000 per month
This is an Enterprise-grade solution for high volume merchants and large businesses.

Features Offered by Shopify

1. Online Store (Includes eCommerce website and Blog)

Comes with: Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

This is where it all begins. If you want to create an impression and have an online store, you need to choose one of the Shopify plans – Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify. If you were to choose the Shopify Lite plan, you are not going to get a store.

2. Unlimited Products

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Irrespective of the plan you select, you can include an unlimited number of products in your online Shopify store.

3. Staff accounts

Comes with: Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

For your online store, you would have staff members to help you manage your store. You have the option of giving access to these staff members. Based on the plan you select, you have a certain limitation on the number of staff members you can assign to the Shopify admin and Shopify POS (Point-of-Sale).

The number of staff members you can assign to for the Basic Shopify plan is 2, for the Shopify plan is 5, and for the Advanced Shopify is 15.

4. 24/7 Support

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

I suppose this goes without saying when it comes to Shopify. All Shopify plans include 24/7 customer support. If you are a member of the Shopify plan, you get access to their customer support 24/7, 365 days a year.

5. Sales channels

Comes with: Lite*, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

With this feature, you can sell on online marketplaces and social media (channel availability varies by country). On Social Media, you can integrate your store with Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram, etc. * The Lite feature is not available for Pinterest and Twitter.

6. Locations

Comes with: Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Assign inventory to retail stores, warehouses, pop-ups, or wherever you store products.

Here again, based on the plan you select, you can assign store locations for fulfillment. The number of locations you can have for the Basic Shopify plan is 4, for the Shopify plan is 5, and for the Advanced Shopify is 8.

7. Manual Order Creation

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

How a Manual Order Creation feature helps you is in the ability to process or enter an order manually, without an online purchase being made by the customer. Hence, even if you were to sell a product in the offline world, you can still take advantage of Shopify’s Manual Order Creation feature and enter it into the system manually.

8. Discount Codes

Come with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Discount codes are a great tool to increase traffic and sales. The Discount codes available in all the Shopify Plans allow you to run promotions and offer discounts to your customers when they use a specific code.

9. Free SSL Certificate

Come with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

No online store is complete without an SSL Certificate. And Shopify is no different. All the Shopify plans have Free SSL Certificates.

10. Abandoned Cart Recovery

Comes with: Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Another great feature to get the customer back. The Abandoned Cart Recovery feature allows customers to return back, even after closing out the page. The customer gets to view their shopping cart, just as they left it.

11. Gift Cards

Comes with: Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

With the various Shopify Plans, i.e., Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify, you get the Gift Cards feature. This feature allows your customers to send a Gift Card, which can be used at a later date.

12. Professional Reports

Comes with: Shopify, Advanced Shopify

If you require Professional reporting, then you will have to upgrade to the Shopify and Advanced Shopify plans. These are the only plans that provide the feature of running advanced reports.

The reporting allows you to understand where you’re customers are coming in from, which traffic source is working, which social media platform is working for, the top-selling products, the entire demographics, etc.

You do have some amount of reporting available, but if you are considering detailed reporting, then it would be worth upgrading to the Shopify or the Advanced Shopify plan.

13. Advanced Report Builder

Comes with: Advanced Shopify

The only Shopify plan in which you get the Advanced Report Builder is the Advanced Shopify Plan.

14. Shipping Discounts

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

These are the competitive shipping rates from DHL Express, UPS, or USPS.

When you use the shipping labels from Shopify you get greater discounts, based on your Shopify plan.

With Lite and Basic Shopify plan, you get up to 64% off the shipping labels. Whereas you get a discount of 72% and 74% for the Shopify plan and the Advanced Shopify plan respectively.

15. Print Shipping Labels

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

This is a feature that comes with all the Shopify Plans.

16. Fraud Analysis

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Irrespective of the Shopify plan you go ahead with, you get Shopify’s award-winning fraud analysis to ensure you are protected from fraudulent purchases.

17. Online Credit Card Rates

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Based on the Shopify plan you select, your fees for accepting credit cards vary. The higher the Shopify plan you go ahead with, the lesser the fees you pay.

So for the Lite and Basic Shopify plan, you will pay 2.9% plus 30 cents (2.9% + 30¢). For the Shopify plan, the charges are 2.6% plus 30 cents (2.6% + 30¢). The Advanced Shopify plan gives you a further discount and charges you 2.4% plus 30 cents (2.4% + 30¢).

18. In-person Credit Card Rates

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

Similar to the previous point, these are the offline (in-person) credit card rates, again based on the Shopify plan you select.

So for the Lite and Basic Shopify plan, you will pay 2.7% plus 0 cents (2.7% + 0¢). For the Shopify plan, the charges are 2.5% plus 0 cents (2.5% + 0¢). The Advanced Shopify plan gives you a further discount and charges you 2.4% plus 0 cents (2.4% + 0¢).

19. Additional fees

Comes with: Lite, Basic Shopify, Shopify, Advanced Shopify

In case you are using any other payment providers apart from Shopify Payments, these are the transaction fees, again based on the Shopify plan you opt-in for.

Again, the higher the Shopify plan you go ahead with, the lesser the fees you pay.

So for the Lite and Basic Shopify plan, you will pay 2.0%. For the Shopify plan, the charges are 1%. And for the Advanced Shopify plan gives you a further discount to 0.5%.

20. Point-of-Sale (POS)

There is also a retail add-on package that gives you everything you need to sell in a brick-and-mortar store.

For a detailed understanding, view the Shopify section on Point-of-Sale (POS)
